Our Work

Scholarships

APTF provides scholarships to deserving students – the future leaders of the public transportation industry. The selection criteria include a continued demonstrated interest in the public transportation industry as a career, academic achievement, and need for financial assistance.

Fellowships

The APTF Board of Directors has established the Fellows Program to help provide continued funding of the APTF Scholarship Endowment. Individuals who contribute to one of the five Fellow categories will be formally recognized as an APTF Fellow at the APTF Awards Ceremony at the APTA Annual Meeting.

“Take Us There” Campaign
5 Year Fundraising goal: $250,000

Summary

Raise $250,000 so that APTF can establish up to five (5) new named student scholarships by the 2017. The idea would be to grow this segment by adding 5 new corporate or association or foundation, etc., named student scholarships. This would increase the number of named scholarships by almost 50%.

We have two-tiered approach (to included the smaller businesses in Package B below) as follows:

General Background

The “Take Us There” Campaign means a commitment from 5 corporations, association or organizations to agree to establish 5 new named scholarships over 5 years, for a total of $250,000. The Campaign was announced at the APTF Awards Program during APTA’s Annual Meeting conference in October 2100 and will continue through the next 4 years.

By raising $250,000, the APTF will expand the number of student scholarships and enhance workforce development programs in the public transportation industry.

The donating entity will specify the type of scholarship they would like to award, as long as it conforms to the general goals of the APTF and benefits the public transportation industry. The APTF Board would approve each scholarship fund and would choose the scholarship winners during its annual scholarship selection process.

The “There” is the goal to raise $250,000. Each company that commits will designate their representative serve as APTF spokespersons at various APTA conferences, workshops and seminars.

It is also important to remember that the focus of the campaign is not only on the building of a large donation, but on the benefits to the industry that this contribution will provide through expanded, increased and more efficient programming in providing funding to support the education needed to grow the leaders of the future. The APTF website would have a hyperlink to each company’s website. And most importantly, once fully funded, it is funded for life and this company named scholarship is publicized and awarded into perpetuity.

“Take Us There” Campaign, TOO
5 Year Fundraising goal: $50,000

Summary

Raise $50,000, by soliciting support from as many small size businesses who are interested in establishing an additional named scholarship by the 2016. This allows any smaller company, unable to donate $50,000, to be equally received the acknowledgement any large size business may receive. APTF would give smaller firms or those that would want to contribute a lesser amount a chance to continue an annual amount for a scholarship – maybe 5 firms, $2,000 per year – which would support one named scholarship over a 5 year period.

General Background

The “Take Us There, TOO” Campaign means a commitment from 5 small businesses, associations or organizations to agree to establish one (1) new named scholarship over 5 years, for a total of $50,000. The Campaign would be announced in March 2012 and would continue through following 5 years.

By raising $50 million, small businesses would also be helping APTF expand the number of student scholarships and help enhance workforce development in the public transportation industry.

The donating entities could specify the type of scholarship they would like to give, as long as it conformed to the general goals of APTF and benefits the public transportation industry. The APTF Board would approve each scholarship fund and would choose the scholarship winners during its annual scholarship selection process.

It is also important to remember that the focus of the campaign should not only be on the building or amassing a large scholarship fund, but on its benefits to the industry.
